The recent 'discussion' regarding cycletracks is not about the the length of contributing studies or the needs of other transportation users on these streets, it's about how at Director Bellamy's confirmation he appear to state that cycletracks on these streets will probably not happen, that the project is likely canceled. That appears to be contrary to what was stated above - that DDOT has "revised plans for L and M Streets to a 50% design, and have commenced studying the existing innovative facilities". That doesn't sound like canceled.

Most bicyclists understand that adding facilities is difficult and time consuming. We understand that adding new bike infrastructure will be exponentially more difficult than what is currently constructed. What we would like is consistent messaging with regard to DDOT plans and periodic statements that convey changes in plans or any other progress in the District efforts to add bicycling facilities. Crossing downtown is challenging for nearly all transportation modes; we are hopeful that DDOT continues to make progress in its efforts to cross it by bike.

Thank you for all you have done thus far to improve DC as a cycling city. Definite progress has been made and I am grateful. The benefit to both cyclists (safer riding options) and drivers (less automobile traffic) has been noticeable. Please keep up the good work and build these much-needed east-west cycletracks!
